How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?

Common signs are a loud bang from the garage, a door that suddenly feels very heavy, a visible gap in the torsion spring above the door, or an opener that strains and stops after a few inches. Do not try to lift the door by hand or pull the emergency release with a broken spring. Call us and we will replace the spring safely.

The most common cause is the safety sensors near the floor being blocked, dirty or knocked out of alignment. Make sure both sensor lights are on and nothing is in the way. If the door still reverses, the problem may be bent tracks, worn rollers or opener limit settings, and a technician should take a look.

Springs, cables, rollers, openers and single damaged panels can usually be repaired. Replacement makes more sense when several panels are damaged, the door is old and uninsulated, or you keep paying for repairs. We will give you an honest recommendation and a price for both options when it makes sense.

Most spring, cable, roller and opener repairs are finished in one to two hours. A full new garage door installation usually takes about half a day, depending on the door size and style.
